.... of Caribbean descent. These artists really blurred the line between art and activism, and in doing so, they opened up new possibilities for artistic expression. The fact that it covers nearly the entire last half of the 20th century a time of political turmoil around the world means that we can learn a lot about these events by studying these artists reaction to them. The show also makes you question why there is not more action art being done nowadays, in the wake of the catastrophic events that are happening around the globe, such as war and famine.
One of the most powerful pieces, for me, was Oscar Bonys La Familia Obrera. The piece was executed in the year 1968. The artist found a working class family in Argentina and paid them twice the amount of their daily salary to sit in a gallery and pose as a work of art each day.
