...... In regard to the currently open U.S. position, Michael has two possible alternatives. First, he could forget about it and take the position in China. Considering however that he does not wish to do so, he should make a stronger case for himself by engaging in political activities. He should stop relying on the results power to influence the CEOs decision and convince the CEO that he is the right man for the U.S. job. He should communicate his ideas more openly and make his agenda public to the organizational leaders. He should set the basis for partnerships with various colleagues and become allies, rather than enemies. He should also praise and emphasise his professional achievements, rather than hoping the executives will see them and judge him based on them. Michael does have the power to do this as it is obvious he is a valuable staff members and this gives him the power to negotiate his contracts (Widmann and Kopelan, quoted by Ellen Peebles)
