As a high school student I attended and excelled in school in Australia. The challenges of the region were many and I faced many personal cultural hardships as a result of being away from my extended family and my own nation. The opportunities clearly outweighed the hardships as I was able to travel many paths I would not have been able to travel if I had remained in China and learn many things that I would not have at home. Though I missed my extended family greatly there was a clear sense that I could develop friendships and relationships with others that although different represented the beginning of a chosen family. This chosen family began in Australia and extended the US when I began relocated to Santa Monica College in California. I studied there for two years and then again relocated to complete three years of college at California State Northridge.
My five years of education at these two universities, as well as my education in Australia have exposed me to many varied international peoples and has further broadened my understanding of the diversity of language and culture. As
